Subject: “What is Forgiveness?”

The Beloved One: “The subject of this morning is about forgiveness. It is important to take a closer look at forgiveness, for not many people on this particular planet think about or busy themselves with forgiveness as a routine habit. Allow me then to shine Heaven’s Light on forgiveness, as through understanding and practice people would become increasingly healthier. It simply does not help to ingest more chemicals to remedy one’s restlessness of mind as over time, this will move the cause deeper into the system and create worse maladies that will affect one’s mental and emotional systems.
“Remember that body, mind and spirit are a closed, unified system. They operate in tandem with each other and therefore what happens in one affects the whole system. The sorry state on this planet is that very few people are in total balance in all three systems for all of the time and one wonders: could this have something to do with forgiveness? The answer is that even small upsets like impatience towards someone is enough to bring on feelings of being ‘out of sorts.’ The danger is that few people note when they are out of sorts because there are so many things with which to occupy the mind.
“In fact, few people schedule the time or prioritize a time for prayer and meditation, which means that after prayer a period of silence is practiced to hear back from the Still Voice within, waiting for just such an opportunity to help guide the human. That is its function — to help still the mind for the benefit of the whole system. This can only be experienced when taking time out to have a ‘little talk’ with the God of your being.
“To delve deeper into today’s chosen subject: What is forgiveness? This entails mastery over poisonous thoughts, like resentment towards anyone or harboring thoughts of getting even with someone, being jealous, unforgiving, angry and much more. Even harsh words spoken in haste can evoke uncomfortable feelings or even habitual criticism. There are so many negative habits to overcome.
“However, it is important to point out that humankind must become ever more aware of how their reactions affect themselves and other humans — even the planet herself. This needs to be pointed out, so each mortal can take stock of his or her inner world, where the real seeds for inner growth are hidden. This is the meaning and purpose of life that you humans grow up according to your divine blueprint given to you at birth, and that you grow up to become stalwart humans worthy of being called children of God. This entails the practice of always being ready to forgive, so you can keep your slate clean and obtain and keep vigorous health throughout life.
“Forgiveness plays a huge role in life, coupled with your practicing the golden rule. These two practices would simplify life enormously as diplomacy with understanding would get a chance to function and remove many ills so peace would become a reality. Without forgiveness, love and tolerance, peace will remain elusive as peace is to begin with each individual.”

Ode to Buddy

It was a sunny summer afternoon more than 12 years ago when my wife and my three boys came home from a shopping errand. I was on the back deck relaxing after working in the yard all day. I heard the van pull into the driveway and the doors close and was expecting a call to come help put groceries away, but instead, I saw all four heading through the yard up to the back deck where I was sitting. As they got closer I could see this dark shadow trailing behind them and one of the boys excitedly exclaimed, “Dad, Dad, look what we have!” In tow, was this beautiful sleek and trim Black Labrador Retriever, about a year old, who seemed to be very happy to be on a leash tagging behind his newly found pack.
Before I could ask a question, my wife said, “We drove by to the zoo today — they were hosting a pet adoption day and the boys wanted to go and look at the dogs there.” “Ian, picked him out.” When he first set eyes on him, he told the family, “This is the one — this is our dog.” After a few minutes of petting and feeding him treats, we all came up with the name, “Buddy,” a fitting name for such a friendly dog who just loves to be around the family. Buddy has been a really good and faithful friend all these years and really the only pet my boys have known as an intimate part of the family.
Today is another sunny spring day, and sadly, is most likely the last day we will be with our beloved faithful friend, Buddy. He’s old, frail, and very sick now — having great difficulty standing and walking — the result from a slow wasting disease he developed a couple years ago. Our whole family is anticipating the grieving of not having his presence with us on the morrow and that tearful drive to the veterinarian to mercifully set his spirit free from suffering. Many of you have experienced this sad procession.
I remember my children asking me if dogs have a soul and whether or not they go to “doggy heaven.” I explained that I truly did not know the fate of an animal’s spirit energy, but because they cannot know God, and do not have the intelligence or will to make moral choices that they probably did not have a soul. At this point, I had to explain in simple terms what a soul was — that it is a container for all the experiences of your life that make you, you, and only those things that survive death and have meaning and value to God — love and the life lessons where you became greater and more perfect than you were the day before — the very best part of you that continues on learning and experiencing new adventures and returns to God the treasure of who you are.
I went on to explain that Buddy’s spirit energy is a part of God’s Spirit as is that of all the creatures of this world, and it is most likely that Buddy’s spirit will be recycled and appear again as a puppy on some other world where he will be loved by another family and will be happy again. They all seemed to understand and accept my theory and with it some comfort knowing he will live again and be happy.
With a teary eye, I say, “Bon voyage my faithful friend and I hope you soon wake in the arms of some loving child on some other beautiful garden planet in God’s creation. You will be dearly missed, and surely you have left your loving mark on all our souls.”

Thought Adjuster: “There is a sign of the spiritual elevation of your world as one observes the great number of people who are awakening to a more personal spirituality. There is still so much confusion. Many are deceived in believing in religions of mysticism and fantasies oriented at magically solving all problems. However, the search for a personal way to find truth and to know God is conducted by many — by many more than at any other time in the history of Urantia.
“This is a most interesting time in your history. You are witness to the dawning of the age of Light and Life, and some of you have felt a strong impulse to participate in this. In eternity, you will be counted among the pioneers of the advancement of your world.
“This time is also a great moment for discoveries in spirit. Just as the twentieth century produced an unprecedented amount of scientific discoveries and achievements in your understanding of the universe and reality, this new era of spiritual enlightenment will bring along new and improved ideas about your Father, your origin and your destiny.
“This impulse towards progress is being orchestrated from on high. A vast number of Thought Adjusters with great experience have come forth to serve the human beings of your world and there are many more on the ‘waiting list.’ An unprecedented number of celestial teachers have volunteered to assist. Heaven is indeed pouring down to earth and the impulse of this spiritual conversion is evident. This is the will of Michael, always following very closely the will of the Creator Father of all.
“Thus, the fact that you have been born in this era is not a coincidence. If the Thought Adjusters can preview the entire life of a human creature before its birth, is it then not possible that the Father may have reserved some personalities to arise at the right moment? None of you is here by mere chance. You are precisely where your Father in His infinite wisdom deemed the right place for you to be.
“It is up to everyone of you to find your purpose and play your role — do the job — for which you have been prepared. Each one of you can do this by the discipline of stillness meditation and listening to what the Father may want you to realize, to then follow His divine Guidance to do His will. It is that simple.
“You will discover that nowhere else your soul will feel more satisfied or be more successful than by doing the task for which your Father has prepared you and so perform the function that God desires to perform through you. The purpose of your human life is to achieve spiritual growth, but the way in which this path is travelled is always an individual and personal journey — a shared enterprise between each person and his or her Divine Presence. Find your place in the world and give the best of your being. The results of the union of humanness and divinity shall reach beyond time and will produce the changes this world needs.”

Nothing to Do with Anything, but Good for a Laugh.

This happened many years ago during the time when Tamara Chelsey and I were involved with clinical (ethical) hypnosis — hypno-therapy is actually the proper term. One of our eight students was a young man called Luigi, a new arrival from Italy in the Land of Oz.
Luigi was loud, hard to understand as he murdered the English language. And at this time, while he had completed just four of the first 12 lessons, he decided he knew it all. What kind of a therapist would he grow up to become? I dreaded the prospect of guiding him week after week. With a sign above his door and an advertisement in the local paper, he thought he was ready for anything.
Since he lived in a rather Latin part of town, and his having a name like Luigi, it wasn’t long before his first patient rang the bell. Enter Tony, a sickly young man, who for years had visited many physicians, psychologists and even the odd (pun intended) psychiatrist. No one had come up with the answer to what ailed Luigi’s countryman.
It took a number of tries for Luigi to hypnotise Tony. At last the patient showed the tell-tale signs of rapid eye movement behind his closed eye lids. What to do now? Luigi didn’t know. As yet his lessons in specific therapies had not begun. Therapies would come many months down the track. Perhaps his patient would begin to speak. Perhaps. Perhaps not. Luigi waited, and waited, and he waited some more, but Tony didn’t say a thing.
Finally Luigi could stand it no more, and he shouted at his patient: “What the &%44&# hell is the matter with you?”
Please, don’t try this at home.
Shocked and surprised Tony opened his eyes and muttered, “I’m allergic to starches.” Problem solved, but what a way to go about it. Here we now are, we have an Italian allergic to starches. No more spaghetti, no more pasta. What is left?
It taught us the valuable lesson, however, that deep down we know precisely what is wrong with us. It taught proud and overconfident Luigi to study up on his long, long list of therapies.
All the above is fairly well remembered. Oh, yes.

Teacher: “Dear child, as you consciously embark upon your spiritual journey, you might at first feel overwhelmed by the task at hand and by the length of the journey ahead of you. What matters most is that you consciously live your daily stretch toward your final destination. As you look back on the years of practicing Stillness, you come to realize that you did progress, baby step-by-baby step. The same goes for the training and toning of your physical being.
“At first, you may feel drained and have a frequent need to catch your breath. You may be overcome by doubt in your ability to become the healthy being that you are striving to be. You do have a mental picture of your goal — a vision — a picture that you post on your refrigerator door to remind you of what is possible.
“As you long to develop your soul and get to know the Father’s love, do also express your vision — the vision of this beautiful connection — and imagine the feelings of joy, bliss and ecstasy you will one day be able to call your own. At times, as you persevere, you will get glimpses of them, a wonderful taste so that you can keep going, hoping for more.
“You do have to purge your being from all negative tendencies and emotions in order to commune more intimately with the Father’s Presence who does not contain any shadows, only light. You achieve this by raising your vibrations, more and more, climbing the ladder of higher emotions that lead you to the highest of them all: Uncorrupted Unconditional Love.
“The Father does not spoil His children with unearned rewards. He is pro-active in the education He provides. The best feelings come from having tried and persevered and seen positive outcomes. Keep trying and you will know whereof we speak.”
